Recent discussions suggest that Sony is considering acquiring Kadokawa, the company that owns FromSoftware, the team behind renowned titles like Elden Ring, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. A new report indicates that negotiations between Sony, the parent company of PlayStation, and Kadokawa are currently underway. Informants close to the situation mentioned that a potential agreement could be finalized in the near future.

At present, Sony holds a 2% stake in Kadokawa and a 14% stake in FromSoftware. Additionally, the company has rights to the Demon's Souls and Bloodborne series, while FromSoftware retains ownership of Elden Ring and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Kadokawa also possesses the developer Acquire, known for its recent titles such as Mario & Luigi: Brothership on the Nintendo Switch and Octopath Traveler.

Earlier this year, Kadokawa announced its acquisition of the studio and noted that it has various game projects in development for both console and mobile platforms, aiming to enhance its intellectual property creation in the gaming sector. In other news, The Game Awards have unveiled the nominees for the upcoming event scheduled for next month.

For the first time in a decade, downloadable content (DLC) and expansions have been included for major award considerations. Among these nominations is Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, which is recognized in several prominent categories, including Game of the Year.
